The Celtic Music Club of South Australia, located in Adelaide, is a medium-sized group of musicians and Celtic enthusiasts! The Club aims to promote an appreciation of Celtic music, to encourage the playing of Celtic music and to provide a venue for that purpose. The Club hosts two types of regular event at the Irish Club in Carrington St, Adelaide. On Mondays (excluding public holidays) we run a music session upstairs and we hold a Céilí on the third Saturday of each month.
The music we play at the Monday sessions has been chosen from the tried and tested resources of our three music books, with a few new tunes added. Our tune list changes weekly to keep things interesting and is chosen by the leader for each week. The enthusiasm, musical skill and effort by our members should be an inspiration to you all!
The Celtic Music Club dances (Céilí) continue to be a success and the interaction between musicians and dancers alike is rewarding and enjoyable! Pat Organ regularly leads the music as he has done for many years, with Liam Flynn ably taking over when Pat is unable to attend. Both are extraordinary musicians and we are lucky to have them. Special mention goes out to the musicians who attend and play on stage and do the lion’s share of the dance calling. The tunes played at the Céilí are mostly found in the tune books and musicians who attend the Monday session are encouraged to come along and join the band on-stage.
A few words from our Music Coordinator…
I’d like to express my appreciation for all those who take a turn at leading – the Monday sessions would not work without you. Thanks also to those who help set up and clean up after the sessions and the dances. Your help is much appreciated! Without our volunteers the club would not work!
Our members give generously of their time and effort to make the Celtic Music Club the enjoyable experience it is. We look forward to seeing some newer members and encourage you to come along and have some fun!
Hope to see you soon!
